You'll not see the bolded out yellow background with red, I'm

Subject: kaltura test acct info to Stef
To: stef@all-ingroup.com

Hi Stef, (Please respond so that I know you received this)

My name is Matt Roberson and I am the Sr. Director of Sales here with
Kaltura Video Platforms. I see that you set up a KMC test account with
us to test out our VIDEO PLATFORM, and please keep in mind that the
TEST ACCT 10 GB’s that you get FOR FREE is just a ONETIME ALOTMENT of
bandwidth for testing purposes; NOT A MONTHLY ALOTMENT of bandwidth.
Simply put, once you use the 10 GB’s the test acct will shut down and
no longer work.

Also, in the test acct’s keep in mind you only have access to about
half of our solution and if you become a real LIVE FULLY HOSTED client
with us you will have access to all of our UPGRADED TOOLS  AND WIDGETS
as well which is a great thing.

This said, please  keep in mind that at Kaltura we are the “ONLY” soup
to nuts Open Source Video & Global CDN platform provider in the market
today; so simply put we give our clients the flexibility, scalability,
distribution of content ability, and customization ability that you
simply cannot get with any of the competing  platforms out there
today.

This said I’d like to set aside some time to chat with you and your
team live about YOUR VIDEO NEEDS and about our Video platform
offerings; and if your very serious about a partnership with us at
Kaltura, I’d be glad to set up A LIVE DEMO with you and your team as
well so that I can show you all of the UPGRADED tools, widgets and
services that you, your team, and your clients will get with our FULLY
HOSTED solution.

Lastly, please know that if you wish to, our clients have the ability
to bundle and re-sell our Video Platform with their current offerings
to their clients; (which most of our WEB SHOP, INERACTIVE AGENCIES, &
INTERACTIVE MARKETING CLIENTS DO) so that they now have a great value
added Video Platform offering for their clients as a white label type
offering; and so that they can mark it up nicely for a nice internal
profit as well.  That said, our average client makes a 300% to 400%
mark up that re-sells our services so if this is of interest to you
and your team, please let me know and we can chat live about this
option with Kaltura.

In closing, in regards to our offerings we keep it very simple and we
have one simple solution to offer to our clients;

·         OUR FULLY HOSTED SOLUTION: IN OUR FULLY HOSTED SOLUTION WE
PROVIDE THE HOSTING AND STREAMING FOR OUR CLIENTS WITH "A-GRADE"
GLOBALLY REPLICATED AND LOAD BALANCED CDN DELIVERY IN REAL TIME VIA
OUR STREAMING VIDEO PLATFORM.  IN FULLY HOSTED, ALL OF OUR OPEN SOURCE
TOOLS AND WIDGETS ARE ALL INCLUDED AT NO ADDITIONAL FEE WITH OUR FULLY
HOSTED SOLUTION. IN FULLY HOSTED, OUR CUSTOMER ALSO RECEIVES FULL API
AND SOURCE CODE ACCESS TO ALL OFF OUR UPGRADED OPEN SOURCE TOOLS AND
WIDGETS AS WELL; INCLUDING THE ABILITY TO CUSTOMIZE, WHITE LABEL,
SKIN, AND BRAND THEIR PLAYERS, CUSTOM PLAYLIST, ABILITY TO SET UP SUB
ACCTS TO RE-SELL OUR SOLUTION TO THEIR CLIENTS IF THEY WISH TO DO SO;
FULL ON2 / VP6 CODEC UPGRADED TRANSCODING SO THAT YOU CAN TRANSCODE
YOUR CONTENT INTERNALLY IN REAL TIME, AND SO THAT YOUR END USERS THAT
VISIT YOUR WEB SITE CAN UPLOAD THEIR OWN VIDEO ONTO YOUR WEB SITE AS
WELL IF YOU WANT THEM TO. THE ON2 VP6 TRANSCODING IS ALSO GREAT FOR
LARGE FILE AND HD QUALITY VIDEOS; SO THAT THEY CAN BE TRANSCODED
FASTER, QUICKER, MORE EFFICIENT. IN OUR FULLY HOSTED SOLUTION WE ALSO
INCLUDE FULL HD SUPPORT, ROBUST REPORTING AND ANALYTICS, SYNDICATION
ABILITY, MONETIZATION OF CONTENT, TALK BACK, ADD COMMENTS, AND SHARING
ABILITY, AND OUR ADVANCED EDITING-MASH UP TOOLS SO THAT OUR CLIENTS OR
THEIR END USERS CAN EDIT/MASH UP THEIR VIDEO ON THE FLY IN REAL TIME.
OUR CLIENT ALSO RECEIVES FULL ENTERPRISE SUPPORT IN OUR FULLY HOSTED
ENVIRONMENT.

Lastly, my number is below so please do not hesitate to call me or
email me anytime with any questions, and we sincerely appreciate you
taking the time to look at our Fully Hosted Video Platform as a
potential fit for you, your team, your clients, and your projects.
Have a great day

Creating Together,

Birmingham Council running a "programme of engagement" to improve the website

Here's a disappointing but not unexpected "no" for a BCCDIY hack day
to be part of Hello Digital.

Interesting that there looks like there's going to be some kind of
consultation. If I find out anything I'll put it out online.

Dear Stef,

Thank you for your application to be part of the Hello Digital Fringe
programme. Sophia Tarr has been trying to contact you by phone but has
been unable to make contact.

Birmingham City Council is currently setting up a programme of engagement
with the public to improve its new website and will be inviting you to take
part in this exercise, rather than duplicating effort. I am sure you will
agree that constructive involvement in the improvement of the
Birmingham.gov site will be of public benefit and I hope you will take this
opportunity to work with us.

In this context we have decided not to include your project in the Hello
Digital Fringe. I am sorry to have to write with disappointing news. If
you have any questions, please contact Sophia Tarr, Festivals & Initiatives
Manager on 012-1464 9675.

With best wishes,

Birmingham City Council Van Gets Ticketed on a Private Road

An amusing turning of the tables following the investigation about parking charges:

A van parks on a 'don't park' area of a private road. I've seen it there several times, and today the notice has mysteriously gone.

Birmingham City of Culture Bid

Birmingham City Council today confirmed plans to bid for the title of the UK’s first City of Culture in 2013.

Culture Secretary Ben Bradshaw launched a UK-wide competition on Monday, looking to build on the success of the European Capital of Culture event in Liverpool last year.

And Councillor Martin Mullaney, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Sports and Culture, is confident Birmingham has what it takes to secure the prestigious title.

He said: "We are certainly going to bid for this and I firmly believe we have what it takes to be the UK’s first City of Culture.

“We already have an exceptional cultural offer here in Birmingham and this is an exciting opportunity to set a new, even higher, standard, benefiting a population that is amongst the youngest and most diverse in the country.

“Culture is not just a luxury on the fringes of everyday life. The art and culture of a city can play a major role in driving regeneration – look at Liverpool’s experience as European Capital of Culture.

“So I’m happy to confirm we will be working together with our partners in the cultural, private and public sectors and I am confident we can put together a fantastic package that will make us a strong contender for the title.”

Newsflash from Birmingham City Council - Digital Britain regional launch speech

(download)

From Kris Kowalski

Good afternoon,

Here is the speech that is set to be delivered by Cllr Paul Tilsley (Deputy Leader of Birmingham City Council and the Chair of the Digital Birmingham partnership) at the opening of tomorrow's Digital Britain regional launch.

In particular, I would draw your attention to the section that says:

I am pleased to announce that Birmingham will create a ‘Digital District’ that brings together the innovative, learning and creative sectors enabled through a next generation hi speed broadband infrastructure. Spanning several hundred acres from the creative industries in Digbeth, our science and technology sectors at Birmingham Science Park and our world class developments at Eastside, it will provide an exciting environment for our creative industries and young entrepreneurs.

The digital district will act as a showcase and business demonstrator to attract new businesses and inward investment and offer a strategy for economic recovery. It will provide a digital infrastructure that captures the ambitions of the Digital Britain Report, where the creative and digital media sectors and knowledge intensive businesses are able exploit the potential that high bandwidth conveys through the creation of new and exciting media content and job opportunities.

There will be opportunities to get more information on this at tomorrow's launch, which is at the ICC in Birmingham from 10.15am to 3.30pm.

Regards,

Kris Kowalewski

Birmingham City Council - E-petitions to be introduced

Online petitions set to give citizens a greater say

Online petitions are set to be introduced by Birmingham City Council as a 21st Century way for citizens to express their views on matters of concern.

Under the plans, the new easy-to-use system, accessible via www.birmingham.gov.uk, will go live later this month.

E-petitoners will be able to upload external documents and images as supporting information and follow the progress of their petition through its life cycle thanks to a timeline function.

Additionally the system would give users access to support materials to market their petition to the public and be given the ability to create paper-based versions of petitions to run at the same time.

Those working on the scheme in partnership with the city council include Digital Birmingham and Service Birmingham.

Cllr Paul Tilsley, Deputy Leader of Birmingham City Council, said: “The introduction of an e-petition facility promises to be major step forward for the city of Birmingham.

“It will provide an additional mechanism for people to have their say on issues - strengthening and broadening citizens’ access and participation in democratic decision-making.

“As a council we are committed to embracing modern technologies and enabling citizens to make the most of the digital age. This project is clear evidence of this.”

Funding for the system would be supplied by the EU, which would also foot the bill for any amendments and upgrades that are needed over the next two years.
